Supplementary feeding in Syria

Syria, Al Shasadi district, Hennah Gharbyeah village
December 2010
WFP in coordination with other UN agencies introduced supplementary feeding with fortified food to prevent further increases of malnutrition prevalence among children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women. A small-scale supplementary feeding component initiated in Al-Shadadi district, which is the district with the highest rate of displacement and school drop-outs and where there is some indication of high levels of under nutrition.
WFP gives particular emphasis to supplementary feeding activities where nurses from health centres are trained.
